Familial Abuse

The definition of domestic abuse includes abuse by family members,

Familial Abuse includes abuse from an adult to another adult who is a close family member.  This could include adult child or grandchild to parent and also son or daughter-in law abusing mother or father-n-law.

Sometimes adults with care and support needs are particularly vulnerable to abuse but this isn't always the case.  Anyone can experience domestic abuse and may be unable to protect themselves and need support.

Where someone does have care needs, they may be experiencing abuse from a family member who caring for them, or someone might be abusing their family carer.
